Does Your Year Need a Tagline?

Does Your Year Need a Tagline?

How to Choose Your Life Tagline and How It Guides You

The majority of the time, when you think of taglines, businesses come to mind. After all, businesses of all sizes use catchy taglines and slogans that they tend to operate and thrive upon to establish an awesome brand for themselves. Because this marketing tactic works so well for the corporate world, it only stands to reason that it could also benefit individuals as well. By developing a tagline for your year and using it to guide you through the 365 days is the ultimate way to be successful, happy, and fulfilled.

You, along with millions of others, can jump into each year as they come and ride out the days, weeks, and months as they come. However, doing so can be quite sporadic, and may even be a bit confusing from time to time if there is not a clear end goal in sight. Though spontaneous events and unsolicited opportunities can result in extraordinary outcomes, a tagline can give you the map to make sure you reach everything you have been striving for.

This does not mean an entirely strict mindset that you have to follow directly; it is more of a leash that is still long enough for you to wander, but can pull you back on the designated path when necessary.

Different than a ‘Word of the Year’

Don’t confuse your Tagline with your Word of the Year. Your Word is a single word that guides and ties all your goals together for an entire year. A tagline can be one word, but most likely a short phrase that says what you do, who you are, or your intentions for your life.

Choosing the Perfect Tagline

Ford – “Go Further”
McDonald’s – “I’m Lovin’ It”
Coca-Cola – “Open Happiness”
Dunkin’ Donuts – “America Runs on Dunkin”
Apple – “Think Different”
Nike – “Just Do It”

What do all of these highly successful business taglines have in common?

Breaking it down, personal taglines are:
1. Short (being able to capture what they are trying to do with as little words as possible)

2. Memorable

3. Easy to Understand

4. Aligns with the goals

5. Encourages a positive reaction

The same recipe needs to be applied to your personal year tagline as well, and it does involve a bit of thought and planning. With these key components in mind, plan ahead, and really dig deep into what you want to accomplish before the year is up. It can be anything you want, from relationships, personal growth, to career aspirations. Whatever it may be, make your tagline something that you can recite in your head easily when you need to, such as when you feel like giving up to reignite that motivation to keep going. For even more effectiveness, put it right up on your vision board as a reminder every day of what you are trying to accomplish.

Use Your Tagline for Personal Growth

As you can see, taglines serve more purpose than helping businesses grow; they can help you obtain personal growth as well. Use this method to your advantage and see for yourself how powerful year taglines can be for your overall goals and well being. It can take some time and can sometimes be a bit challenging to come up with the perfect tagline for yourself each year, but certainly worth the effort in the end.
